Biography
Rev. Dr. Emily Obwaka is a seasoned inter-generational servant leader with a deep passion for inspiring synergy across generations. She is known for her unwavering commitment to transformation and discipleship.
Until October last year, she served as the Executive Director of Teen Challenge Kenya, a Christ-centered rehabilitation and discipleship program helping individuals overcome addiction and life-controlling struggles. Her leadership extended across the continent—she also served as the Deputy Director for the East Africa Region and Women’s Regional Director for Africa with Global Teen Challenge, where she focused on regional growth and the empowerment of women through faith-based solutions.
With a rich background in program management, Dr. Obwaka has worked with renowned organizations including Johns Hopkins University Center for Communication Programs, the Association of Evangelicals in Africa and the Kenya Medical Women’s Association. She has consulted widely for organizations such as AMREF, WHO, USAID & the UN (UNDP,
UNFPA, UNICEF, UNAIDS). Her expertise in administration and her heart for ministry have uniquely positioned her to lead both in the church and the public sphere.
An ordained minister with Christ is the Answer Ministries (CITAM), Dr. Obwaka has served as a chaplain at The Nairobi Hospital, and continues to preach and teach God’s word in her denomination CITAM and in other churches. She is a well-loved conference speaker nationally and internationally on several matters including health, family, leadership and
community transformation. She is also a familiar voice on Hope FM Radio, where she regularly shares biblical insights on life’s deepest questions. Her influence extends into governance and mentorship through board roles across several
organizations. She is:
- Chairperson of Life in Abundance-Kenya and member of Life in Abundance International Board
- Vice Chair of the African Forum for Religion and Government (AFReG) Global Board
- Vice Chairperson of Biblica East Africa Board
- Member of Equity Bank Group Holdings Plc, Health Insurance Board
